Valentine’s Day is here! All around, looooove is in the air, romantic dates, surprise gifts, and grand gestures of affection. Gone are the days when a simple card or box of chocolates would suffice. Today, expectations have skyrocketed, with some going all out with extravagant gifts, even cars!
But amidst all the excitement, modern culture has elevated one particular “gift” as the ultimate expression of love on this day—sexual intimacy.
For those in marriage, sex is a beautiful and sacred gift from God, designed to unite husband and wife (Genesis 2:24). However, today’s world sees sex less as a covenantal act within marriage and more as something casual between two consenting adults.
This mindset has created a romanticized expectation of physical intimacy, making Valentine’s Day not just a celebration of love, but an occasion where many feel pressured to compromise on purity.
The Silent Drift from Purity
Sadly, even within Christian circles, the voices advocating for waiting until marriage have grown weaker. Many young men and women who profess their faith find themselves caught between cultural expectations and God’s call to holiness.
Yet, the Bible is clear:
“For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor.” —1 Thessalonians 4:3-4
Sexual purity isn’t about outdated traditions—it’s about obedience to God. It’s about trusting His design and believing that true love is worth waiting for.
Ladies, Guard Your Dignity
This Valentine’s Day, don’t feel pressured to prove your love through compromise. Your worth is not measured by your willingness to meet worldly expectations. You are precious, valuable, and called to a higher standard.
“Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” —Proverbs 31:30
A man who truly loves you will honor your faith and respect your boundaries. If someone is making you feel that physical intimacy is the ultimate proof of love, that’s not love-it’s manipulation.
Honoring God First
Today, let your celebration of love be one that glorifies God. Love is more than just physical affection—it is about sacrifice, respect, and commitment to righteousness.
Choose to protect your purity, not just because it’s the right thing to do, but because it is an act of worship to God. Surround yourself with people who encourage you to stand firm in your faith, reminding you that your obedience to God is worth more than a fleeting moment of pleasure.
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.” —Matthew 5:8
So, dear sister, don’t let the world dictate how you should celebrate love. This Valentine’s Day, choose purity over pressure, dignity over desire, and obedience over compromise. Let your love story be one that honors God—a love that waits, respects, and ultimately leads to His best for you.
