That’s Not Your Job, Sir – Finding Freedom in God’s Grace; Not Your Own Strength

Soul Food

From College classes, First jobs and Adulting! Life feels heavy enough; then comes the pressure to “be good enough” for God. It’s overwhelming.

Let’s be honest;
That’s not your job, sir.

Jesus didn’t show up to give us more burdens; He came to lift them.

The Open Invitation

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

– Matthew 11:28–30 (NKJV)

This is not religious hype; it’s a rescue plan.
To truly get it, we need to unpack what Jesus was really saying.

What the Words Really Say

Here’s what the original Greek reveals:

  • Come (deute): A calm command that means, “Come here, now.”
  • Labor (kopiao): To be worn out from constant striving.
  • Heavy laden (phortizo): To be overloaded with burdens never meant for you.
  • Yoke (zugos): A harness of shared work and guidance.
  • Rest (anapausis): A soul-level restoration; not just physical downtime.

Jesus isn’t offering a break from life;
He’s offering a new way to live it.

Why This Still Hits Hard Today

In Jesus’ day, religious leaders buried people under rules. Today, culture buries us under pressure.

We whisper things like:
“I’ll come to God when I’m better.”
“I need to earn my place.”
“If I do more, maybe I’ll be enough.”

But Jesus says something else entirely;
“Come as you are.”

Transformation doesn’t come through hustle; It comes through grace.

Four Men Who Prove It’s Not About Perfection

Moses — A fugitive who found purpose in God’s plan (Exodus 3:10–12)
Peter — A disciple who denied Jesus yet helped build His Church (Luke 22:61–62)
Paul — A former enemy of the Gospel who became its loudest voice (Acts 9)
David — A broken man after God’s own heart (Psalm 51)

They all started messy, but finished mighty. Not because they got it right; but because they said yes to grace.

Trying Too Hard Is the Trap

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,
not of works, lest anyone should boast.”

– Ephesians 2:8–9 (NKJV)

Good works are good;
but they cannot save you.

Trying to earn salvation is like rowing across the ocean with a spoon;
you will burn out before you ever arrive.

Grace was never meant to be achieved;
It was meant to be received.

So What’s Your Job?

It’s simpler than you think:

  • Come: Bring your honest, imperfect self.
  • Learn: Walk with Jesus; let truth reshape you.
  • Rest: Let Him carry what you were never meant to.
  • Grow: Let the Spirit form you from the inside out.

You’re not called to perform; You’re called to be present and obedient.

You Were Never Meant to Carry It Alone

From the student pushing deadlines; the young professional chasing approval; to the man silently wondering if he’s “enough”…

Listen up.
That’s not your job, sir.

Jesus already carried the weight.
You just have to come.

In His rest, you will become everything God created you to be.
And in this Man Cave, you’re already welcome.

  1. This is very powerful insight. Thanks for this amazing creative work.

  2. This reminder has come to me at the perfect time.
    Realising once more that JESUS carried the burden already and that I don’t have to go to him perfect for I find my perfection in him alone who paid it all for me

We would like to know what you think
