The fourth edition of the Real Leather. Stay Different. Africa (RLSD Africa) Talent Leather Design Showcase is now open, powerfully affirming Africa’s growing leadership in responsible and sustainable fashion worldwide.
More than a design competition, RLSD Africa has become a continental movement—one that equips African creators to shape global standards from a place of strength, originality, and stewardship. The initiative champions leather as a natural, durable, and renewable material, transforming by-products into beautiful, long-lasting design.
At its heart, RLSD Africa is built on purpose and principle. It stands against fast fashion waste by promoting quality, craftsmanship, and “slow fashion” values—where products are made to endure, reflecting integrity and intentionality. Through education and advocacy, designers are empowered to build sustainable businesses that honor both people and planet.
Kerry Brozyna, President of the Leather and Hide Council of America, affirmed, “Africa is no longer on the margins of the sustainability conversation—it is helping to lead it. RLSD Africa elevates the truth that good design, responsible sourcing, and skilled craftsmanship can create lasting value.”
Nicholas Mudungwe, Executive Director of the Africa Leather and Leather Products Institute, added, “This platform has matured into a vital link between talent, industry, and meaningful impact—anchoring Africa’s creative future in authenticity and global relevance.”
The RLSD Africa 2026 showcase is open to designers aged 18+ in three categories: Apparel, Accessories, and Footwear.
